Myer Spring/Summer 2011-12 Runway

The annual event held in Sydney this week, showcased over 30 renowned Australian designers led by Myer Ambassadors Jen Hawkins and Kris Smith. Drawing inspiration from the Australian landscape, the set design for the show was inspired by the Pinnacles Desert and sand dunes of Cervantes in Western Australia, where the department store's summer fashion catalogue was photographed earlier this year. The desert-inspired set was paralleled in the colour palette that several designers took on for summer. 


Safari hues such as gold, sand, beige, rust and maroon appeared in the designs of Manning Cartell, Ellery, Fernando Frisoni and Nicola Finetti. The other major trend of the evening was bright, bold colour worn all together - (think fuschia mixed with orange, or multi-coloured tribal prints) a standout collection from Sass and Bide who opened the show with their first catwalk appearance since defecting from competitor David Jones this year. In continuing its popularity, the floaty maxi-dress was everywhere, as well as earthy colours and floral prints dominating the catwalk. Arabella Ramsay, Bettina Liano and Leona Edmiston all did versions of this look. A rich violet purple stood out in Aurelio Costarella's collection, flurescent pink and orange pleat dresses popped in Magdalena Valevska's range, whilst menswear was based mostly around preppy, nautical, neat suiting and showing off your 'mankles' (shorter trousers to show off your man ankles) lol.

First Look: Sass & Bide Sunglasses Collection

Sass & bide continues to grow its ever-evolving brand with the launch of a stylish eyewear collection. The sunglasses range from classic styles (the always-in-fashion aviator) to the statement piece (see the hexagonal frame); and each pair is stamped with a symbol of creative duo Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton’s friendship: a star — featured on the tip of every arm — inspired by a tattoo which both designers have. 

The girls from the sass & bide team including senior creative & accessories designer Pip Edwards and marketing manager Sam Dekauwe join Sarah-Jane and Heidi as the faces for the campaign for the first time. 

The new eyewear range will be available in sass & bide boutiques, Myer stores and select optical retailers nationally from September 1 xx

Boogie and the History maker

There were colours. There were statements. There were tribal references. Sass & Bide designers Heidi Middleton and Sarah-Jane Clarke showcased their fall collection during London Fashion Week which has dropped in to stores here in Australia this week, and I can't wait to get my hands on some of the amazing pieces. S&B like the idea of primal instincts in a collection, and chose hues of coral and magenta, tie-dye, and overall embellishments to express it. “We’ve been in Morocco, Laos and plenty of places that we just wanted to draw the energy from. One of the prints was inspired by a feather found in Paris, the other was from an Afghani pattern Sarah-Jane discovered.” 
Feather necklaces from African motifs were part of the line, as were wrap pants and fuchsia palettes. Pink and orange silks, luxe leather and metal belts, draped scarfing, and a to-die-for canary yellow and white necklace, made up some of the most beautiful looks on display that week. What I love most about Sarah-Jane Clark and Heidi Middleton is that no matter how amazing their styling is, or how beautiful their models are, they always manage to upstage everyone when they appear on the runway to close their show wearing pieces from their collection in their individual way. As the winter mornings grow colder here in Oz, I think it's fair to say that it's getting pre-tty chil-ly....but to warm up your mood, Sass & Bide's second winter drop is available in-stores and online (for those days we're stuck inside), with free shipping on all orders over $300.
